Over 1,700 family, friends and fans of Chad “Pimp C” Butler filled the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center in Port Author, Texas to pay tribute to another fallen legend in hip-hop. Butler, who was a member of the group Underground Kingz [UGK], passed earlier this month at the age of 33 from unknown causes in Hollywood, California.

Hundreds of fans sported “R.I.P. Pimp C” t-shirts and blasted classic hits from UGK as they drove to and from the Civic Center. Some of the recognizable names who attended the funeral included Chamillionaire, Bishop “Magic” Don Juan, Three Six Mafia, Weebie, David Banner, Mike Jones, and Big Gipp.

Butler’s partner-in-rhyme, Bun B, served as one of the pallbearers and held his head high as he placed the gray and gold casket inside the rear of the hearse. But the somber afternoon ended on an uplifting note after Butler’s mother [Weslyn “Mama Wes” Monroe] gave a powerful eulogy. “I’m all right, you’re all right, because he’s all right,” she said in an inspiring tone. “My C is celebrating. He’s happy to see you here because Jesus is all right.” -amir shaw
