MIAMI - Frank Fountain, SVP for The Chrysler Group, calls this Labor Day weekend extravaganza "a must-attend event for anyone who's aware of what goes on here." Keith Clinkscales, the SVP for ESPN, says it "is one of the premier networking events and one of the best opportunities to have a good time." And Earl "Butch" Graves Jr., part of the second generation of the publishing dynasty, refers to the event as "one of the most important corporate and leisure events for African Americans in the country." They joined thousands of other rich, famous, influential and well-to-do people at the 14th annual Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa in suburban Miami. It is the premier social and networking event of its kind for African Americans in the country. A multiplicity of musicians, movers and shakers, and multinational corporations - including Pepsico, Chrysler, Aetna, FedEx, American Express and Frito Lay - coalesced on this paradise parcel of emerald greens, crystalline pools and luxurious accommodations. Some of the proceeds from the golf and tennis challenge went toward the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education program. The event featured roof-rattling performances by Cameo, Erykah Badu, Morris Day and Heather Headley. "It's the spirit of the people who are here," says BE Founder and Publisher Earl G. Graves explaining why people flock to this event. "It's the joy of being surrounded by other people who are making it and people who are trying to make it." - terry shropshire
