The It’s Cool To Be Smart mentoring program joined Radio One/Hot 107.9 and several celebrities for the “Saving Our Daughters” discussion in Atlanta. T.I., songwriter Sean Garrett, Deon Grant, and radio personality Rashan Ali encouraged young women to further their education.

“I came out here to give the young ladies a few pointers on life,” T.I. said. “It always feels good to give back and do something for young people.”

Garrett, who has penned hits for Usher, Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child, also heeded the call to give back to the community that supported him when he was younger. “I grew up in the same areas where these young women come from,” he said. “So whenever I have time, I’m always here to support them.”

It’s Cool To Be Smart is also holding a national essay contest called “Football, Shopping Malls and Telephone Calls,” with actress Keke Palmer. The essay contest will allow girls to express the positive aspects of participating in sports. –amir shaw
