pre-fire ball event

DETROIT – Rarely does a solemn subject inspire such jollification as did the discussion at Seldom Blues restaurant recently. A resplendent throng poured into the upscale restaurant in downtown Motown for the ultra-earnest pre-Fire Ball event, and the merriment broke out. The Fire Ball event provides support for the Charles H. Wright museum, the largest African-American museum in the country. Ambassador magazine’s Dennis Archer Jr., the evening’s host, took time to illuminate the illustrious career of hip-hop pioneer-turned-photographer D-Nice, just before the turntable titan hosed down the crowd with a torrent of roof-rattling beats. More importantly though, Fire Ball 2008 is facilitated by the Contemporary Friends of the Charles H. Wright Museum to ensure the preservation and perpetuation of the African American historical institution.
D-Nice, whose given name is Derrick Jones, is a former member of the legendary Boogie Down Productions and was in town to help promote the highly anticipated Fire Ball event. Jones was honored for his exquisite photography collection, which was on display for public viewing while he kept the dance floor percolating. –terry shropshire
