The Female Success Factor, an organization which banks on empowering the community in general, and women specifically, gathered some of Houston’s most accomplished female entrepreneurs, executives, and other notables to provide professional development direction to aspiring women. Seminar discussions centered around corporate how-tos; particularly how to break the ‘glass ceiling,’ planning an exit strategy, and the pros and cons of self-employment. The event, which was sponsored by rolling out and Comerica Bank, afforded professional women a chance to network and share their specific areas of expertise.
The discussion panel included: Dr. Wendy Johnson of Emerge Consulting Group; DiverseStaff COO Carla Lane; Judge Clarease Rankin-Yates; and Dr. Laureen Whisom of Masterpiece Solutions. Attendees were encouraged by the speakers’ business insight and know-how regarding topics ranging from how to succeed in the corporate world, to deciding when to break free and go it alone.
“I ... recommend going in and getting what you can, and [then] starting your own business,” advised Dr. Whisom, “Oftentimes, in corporate America you have to be exceptional.”
“Ask [people] to help you, and develop a relationship,” added Judge Yates. The underlying sentiment and hope is for a new generation of female corporate raiders to be better equipped to scale the mountain to the pinnacle of success. –todd williams
