“Fifty-seven Years of Life, 34 Years of Commitment, 15 Years as president,” was the theme for Malcolm X College president Zerrie Delores Campbell’s retirement and birthday party at Bethany Lutheran Church. Widely acknowledged as one of the most effective educational administrators in the nation, Campbell is the longest serving president in the college’s history. Her tenure was fruitful and well-spent — as evidenced by the throng of supporters and friends who came out to pay tribute to ‘Madam President.’

Fellow educators Dr. Feranda Williamson of Cappella University and Chicago State professor Cecelia Bowie were just a few of the friends who attended. All were grateful for Campbell’s efforts and praised her for her years of hard work and dedication. Her pleasant smile and selfless work ethic will be sorely missed by the faculty, student body and anyone who had the pleasure of working with her. -dusty culpepper
