XXL’s newly-appointed editor-in-chief Datwon Thomas and King magazine editor Jermaine Hall

Datwon Thomas has a lot to smile about. The progressive former editor-in-chief of King magazine was recently named editor-in-chief of XXL magazine, and on a snowy Manhattan night, a host of his friends and colleagues turned out to show their support — from Talib Kweli to NewYork.com CEO Brett Pulley; and Thomas himself spoke at the auspicious occasion.

rolling out hosted the Pepsi-sponsored soiree for the new XXL editor-in-chief at the W Hotel in midtown Manhattan. Colleagues from both XXL and King magazine were on hand for the festivities, and the man of the hour clearly relished the moment.

“I’ve been supporting that brother since he was an intern at VIBE magazine,” said celebrity photographer and longtime friend, Johnny Nunez. “I believe in that brother.”

Judging from the crowds of people that showed up to congratulate Thomas, that belief is well-founded.
