Over 165,000 people converged on Charlotte, N.C., to enjoy the weekend of festivities at the 2008 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament. Although the CIAA is in its 63rd year of existence, the CIAA Tournament remains the premier basketball tournament for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

This year’s events included the McDonald’s Step-Show, the Coca-Cola President’s Dinner, and the 2008 Ford Fan Experience, which featured performances by Bow Wow, Rick Ross and Lyfe Jennings.

On the court, Johnson C. Smith University walked away with the men’s basketball championship, and Shaw University’s women’s team won their fifth title in six years. Ford Motor Company, Coca-Cola, Food Lion and Alltel Wireless were among the sponsors of the 2008 CIAA Tournament. –amir shaw
