With the pledge to “Build Strong Men — Who Will Build Strong Families and Communities,” the M.E.N. Town Community meeting convened at the Empowerment Center in Houston. Focused on raising men’s awareness regarding issues ranging from health, to relationships, to business; the forum provided an occasion for brothers to empower each other through a sense of fraternity and a spirit of change.

“I think what has happened with the Texas Women’s Empowerment Association, [is that] they have emphasized the need for women to come together and empower each other,” explained motivational speaker and event MC, Dr. Charles Philips. “But TWE founder Dr. Deavra Daughtry recognized that there was not just a need for women, but a need for families.”

Speakers ranging from Dr. King C. Mason Jr. (who spoke on the importance of wellness and natural medicine), to George Russell of 1st Impressions Custom Clothing, offered the men in attendance a plethora of positive information. “We recognize that men have needs for health [and] finance,” explained Philips. “When it’s just brothers sitting around [and] knowing that we’re all dealing with the same things — it empowers us and we’re more open.” –todd williams
