end of the year

As we put the finishing touches on 2007, it’s time to pay homage to our favorite cars from the past calendar year.

You've received tacky shoes, hideously colored sweaters, and enough wool hats to last you for several Christmases. But this year, dare to ask Santa for the toy of your dreams. These 2008 car models will undoubtedly make this a very merry Christmas.

2007 Mercedes-Benz GL450
Mercedes entered the largest SUV class with a bang by releasing the GL450. Ready to push the Escalade and Navigator to the side, this hulking Benz impressively not only held its own within this class, it surged ahead of the pack and declared itself the heavyweight champion of the world.

2007 Audi RS4
Once only sold as a wagon and unavailable in the U.S., Audi decided to release the RS4 in a sedan version. Owners of the RS4 found that the aluminum body panels shed weight off of the car and allowed it to reach 62-mph in only 4.8 seconds.

2007 Toyota Yaris Sedan
Although the 2007 Yaris wasn’t as aesthetically pleasing as its cohorts, it proved to be the best bet to combat the rising prices at the gas pump. With an EPA rating of 34-mpg in the city and 40-mpg on the highway, Yaris owners had a few more pennies in their pockets this year.

2007 Acura RL
The RL’s ACE body structure allows both drivers to be protected during car wrecks. Although Acura scored passing grades in the majority of its categories, it had to be reprimanded for its EPA rating.

2007 Volvo S80L
Volvo introduced the new Volvo S80, which featured more safety technology than its predecessor. The Whiplash Protection System braces the seat back and moves the headrest forward so that the impact from an accident is reduced.

2007 Mazda CX-7
Mazda has done a superb job at carving out its own little niche in the low-cost import market. The CX-7 not only does minimal damage to your pocket, it’s also a pretty fun car to drive. .

2007 Acura RDX
The super sleek and equally sexy RDX is not only a lot safer, its features are more luxurious than its predecessors.

2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT
The Special features on the 2007 Eclipse Spyder GT included a technically advanced convertible top that folds under a flush-fitting power cover in less than 20 seconds. Safety features included advanced dual-stage front air bags and seat-mounted side air bags.

2007 Ford Mustang GT
In 2007, Ford Mustang returned with the legendary GT. The granddaddy of all convertibles, this year’s version took pieces of its signature look and incorporated new features that will cause Mustang fans to fall in love all over again.

2007 Ford Edge
The Ford Edge provides the comfort and safety that’s both needed and appreciated in a traditional family car. Spacious enough to fit three child safety seats in the back, the Ford Edge allows parents to still feel young, while being responsible caregivers at the same time.
