cut to the chase

As a journalist, I’m morally bound to the unwritten rule which suggests — no, demands, that I report in a clear and unbiased manner. That won’t be the case today, though. In fact, my intention is to be overtly biased as I share with you three cars that I find surprisingly cool. Go out and buy one today. (See, I told you I was breaking all the rules.)

2008 Honda Fit
The consistent rise in fuel costs make the 2008 Honda Fit a real winner. But it’s not just the economic benefits that make this car a great buy, the Fit also provides a high quality interior experience, along with an extensive range of features normally found on a car twice its price.

Base Price: $14,585
Engine Type: SOHC 16-valve 1.5-liter inline-4
Fuel Economy: EPA city driving: 27–28 mpg

2008 Chevrolet Corvette
Simply put, the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette is fly. The progression and redefinition of this popular model has been in a word — stunning.

With upgrades to the cockpit, as well as a host of other improvements both external and internal, the Corvette is poised to step to the head of its car class.

Base Price: $46,110–$71,000
Engine Type: pushrod 16-valve 6.2-liter V-8, 430–436-hp, 424–428-lb.-ft. of torque; pushrod 16-valve 7.0-liter V-8, 505-hp, 470-lb.-ft. of torque
Fuel Economy: EPA city driving: 15–16 mpg

2008 Volkswagen GTI
The Volkswagen GTI continues to get bigger and better each year, with the 2008 release being no exception. Boasting an attractive price and equally attractive features, the GTI is determined to show and prove its worth this cycle and certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Base Price: $23,370–$23,870
Engine Type: turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 2.0-liter inline-4
Fuel Economy: EPA city driving: 21–22 mpg
