Selecting and caring for the perfect Christmas tree requires expert advice. Here are a few tips to help you choose the right tree for your home. –melody vaughn

1. Decide where in your home you will place the tree before it’s purchased.
The tree should be placed away from doors, TVs, fireplaces and any other heat source.

2. Measure the area where you plan to place the tree.
Don’t just eyeball it ... measure it! Also, take enough rope with you to secure the tree properly to your car.

3. If all sides of the tree will be on display, select a tree that’s perfect from every angle.
If your tree will be against a wall or in a corner ... then two or three good sides may do the trick — and a less than perfect tree might cost less.

4. Fresh trees are the best trees.

Test your tree’s freshness by picking it up and dropping it on the cut end. Check the amount of needles that fall off. The fewer needles lost, the fresher the tree. Maintain its freshness by keeping the stump moist.

5. Make sure the handle or base of the tree is straight and at least 6-8 inches long so it will fit easily into the stand.
