wigs, extensions and hair weaves: what’s the real deal?

take a look

Women spend a ton of money on wigs, hair extensions and weaves, all in the name of looking beautiful and keeping hair maintenance to a minimum. However, although these applications can be beneficial and aid hair growth, if they aren’t applied correctly they can seriously damage the hair. Many women develop a false sense of security and believe that they are giving their damaged hair a break when they wear a wig or weave. The real deal is that just because your hair is either braided or secured under a wig cap, it doesn’t mean it’s free from the threat of damage to hair cuticles and follicles, which can sometimes be severe.

If you have fine, relaxed, or color-treated hair or are experiencing breakage, it’s important to consult with a professional stylist before applying extensions, even if you’re considering the lace front wig application, which will be discussed in detail in next week’s issue. Knowing the condition of your hair before starting the weaving process can save you time, money and most importantly, hair. –khatiymah rabbani
