Midway Games recently released the highly anticipated basketball videogame NBA Ballers: Chosen One on the Xbox 360 and PS3 game consoles. The lead designer of NBA Ballers: Chosen One, John Vignocchi, recently took a “time-out” to answer some questions about what gamers can expect from this new addition to the franchise.
rolling out: NBA Ballers: Chosen One is the first in the series to reach the PS3 and Xbox 360 systems. What new improvements to the graphics can we expect?
John Vignocchi: You can expect the hottest looking next-generation graphics you’ve ever seen in a basketball video game! We cranked up the graphical fidelity nearly four times from what it was in previous versions of NBA Ballers. I’m telling you, when you see the game in action, you’ll think you are actually watching a TV show of Dwight Howard vs. Al Horford ballin’ out of control on a private court in Dubai. It’s like that. You’ll swear that they are about to jump out of your screen!
ro: The NBA Ballers series has always been about slamming moves. Tell us about some of the new moves you can use as you advance your character through the game.
J.V.: We’ve added over 500 new moves to the game, from over-the-top dunks like the monstrous 720 slam to the hottest new dribble moves straight from the streets. We’ve also added this cool new feature called the Shut ‘Em Down Super Moves. These moves are some of the craziest jukes, steals, blocks, shots and dunks that you’ve ever seen in a basketball video game. For instance, D. Wade’s got this juke where he slams the rock down so hard that it shoots 20 feet up in the air, and then he does a windmill — on his opponent’s back — before grabbing the rock on its way down and driving towards the hoop. These Shut ‘Em Down moves are totally cool — you’ve got to see them to believe them!
ro: Having Chuck D on board as the game announcer has to be a plus. What was it like working with him?
J.V.: What you would expect; inspiring, fun, thought-provoking, moving, extraordinary [and] awesome. Chuck D is the consummate professional at all times. Not only is he incredibly talented, he is also one of the most brilliant minds and best speakers that we have ever had the opportunity to work with. Chuck D is one of the first talents in recent memory that we spent more time listening to than directing. The man is the real deal. It was an honor for us to be able to work with such a legend and we would jump at the chance to do it again.
