mlb 08: the show

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Genre: Baseball Sim
Platform: PS3

In the world of video games, no area is more ruthless and cutthroat than sports games. Video game publishers will literally sell their souls to own the No. 1 selling game. There are really only two ways to create a top-selling game. You can cheat a little and pay a boatload of money for exclusive rights or you can do it the old-fashioned way and just make a damn good game. Luckily, Sony has been doing this with the MLB Baseball series from the start. This year though, MLB 08: The Show seems ready to take its rightful position at the top of the heap. Simply put, MLB 08 is the best baseball game available right now. No other baseball game is bigger, deeper or gives you more options. The game seems to be infinitely customizable. You can play MLB 08 as a simple, fun arcade game, or you can have complete control over every aspect from managing, to fielding and hitting, for a true baseball experience. But what really separates MLB 08 apart is the “Road to the Show” mode. Without a doubt, this is the deepest and finest career modes I’ve ever played in a sports game. Here, you start out in the minors and take your player all the way to the big leagues. Along the way, you’ll experience all the ups and downs of a baseball player. Trades, promotions, demotions and free agency make this one of the best and most satisfying sports gaming experiences you’ll ever play. Also, expect MLB 08: The Show to take full advantage of the PS3’s power. The audio alone for MLB 08 is a whopping 10 gigs. Excellent customizable game play and smooth graphics make this game one show you don’t want to miss. dark abyss
