lost planet: extreme condition

Publisher: Capcom
Genre: Action/Shooter
Platform: PS3

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a sci-fi action shooter that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Set in the future, mankind has been forced to colonize other planets. Things seem to be going well, until the Akrid show up to crash the party. These aggressive insect-like creatures are incredibly powerful, but as the humans soon find out, the Akrid also contain a thermal energy substance that can be used as heat and energy.

You play the game as ‘Wayne,’ while he tries to piece together what happened to his father and avenge his death. The story line isn’t the greatest, but that’s OK, because once the action starts in Lost Planet, the plot won’t even matter. Cool weapons and mech-suits with hyperdestructive firepower pitted against massive bosses that make your character look like an ant, all add up to one intense experience. The game does add a slight twist in the use of thermal energy. Once outside, the harsh conditions of Lost Planet constantly deplete your thermal energy. Once it reaches zero, you freeze to death. The energy is replenished each time you kill an Akrid. So this game kind of pushes you to keep blowing things up. Now that’s pretty cool. If you’re into online play, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition allows up to 16 players to rain destruction down on each other. –dark abyss
