I have to admit. I’m a sucker for the Wipeout racing series. I’ve played almost every game in the series and while some have been a little better than others, I can truly say that I’ve enjoyed them all. For the uninitiated, the Wipeout series is all about speed. Set in the future, players compete in the FX400 Anti-Gravity Racing League. When Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights said, “I want to go fast,” he probably didn’t know it, but he was referring to Wipeout Pulse. With insane speeds that nearly break the sound barrier, Wipeout Pulse is a pure adrenaline rush. As your racer speeds around the track, you can pick up various power-ups. Some benefit your racer, while others, such as mines, plasma cannons and missiles, can inflict massive damage on your fellow opponents. Game play controls are simple, but there is a steep learning curve for controlling your racer. Racing around futuristic tracks at speeds in excess of 600 mph takes a little time to get used to. That said, Wipeout Pulse is a blast to play and the graphics are amazingly sharp and clear, given the high speeds of the game. Also, check out www.wipeoutpulse.com for additional downloadable, tracks and skins for your racers. - dark abyss
