Chillingly soulful is a fitting description for the stirring vocal command of gospel singer-songwriter Tim Lawrence. The Detroit native has been blessed with the ability to spread the Word in a manner that is nothing short of heavenly.
“I know whose I am and I know my purpose,” Lawrence confidently states. “As an artist, I would describe myself as unique, in that I don’t sound like anybody else [and] I know that I’m made and created by God.”
Having been surrounded by music since the tender age of 3, Lawrence developed a passion to express himself through song. He began his professional recording career with an all-male quartet called Redeemed, which helped him build a solid musical foundation and grow creatively.
“That pretty much molded who I loved,” he says. “[I] like Sam Cooke, the Soulstars, [and] the Mighty Clouds of Joy. But I also listened to [everything from] Marvin Gaye all the way to Frank Sinatra. I got a mixture of flavors that I try to blend into something that’s relatable to my audience.”
In the end, Lawrence has passionately perfected a signature style that has developed into a celestial sound destined to transcend popular rotation. His music is guaranteed to deeply affect the hearts of millions. – janaya black
