Music Producer

Since moving to Atlanta in 2001, producer Selasi Duse has acquired a client list which most knob turners would kill for. Boasting collaborations with Keyshia Cole and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, it’s no wonder the Ghanaian musical master is already drawing comparisons to Akon. Add four years of studying international business and marketing at Atlanta Intercontinental University, and it’s also no surprise that Duse seems more level-headed than others in his unique position.

As a producer, engineer and artist, Duse possesses an uncanny level of understanding of the functionality of music that can’t be matched by most new artists.

“I don’t know about other people, but when I hear a good record, a good voice, it just gives me the chills,” says Duse, who calls African music legends Fela Kuti and Angelique Kidjo his musical inspirations. “When I do music, I can work the whole day and forget to eat.”

Duse may be hungry, but the 25-year-old’s plate is full for the upcoming year. Projects with Rasheeda, Killer Mike, and Jagged Edge’s new album are keeping him busy. He’s also in the process of developing his own solo effort.

When working with other artists, Duse prides himself on encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zone in the studio.

“I want somebody to listen to my music and feel like, ‘OK, let me give it one more day, I’ll keep fi ghting,’” he says. “What good is your music if it doesn’t speak to the hearts of people?” - gavin philip godfrey
