Owner and Producer, Drum Squad Production

It would be a huge disservice to simply refer to Drumma Boy, as “Jeezy’s producer.” The Memphis native, born Chris Goldson has compiled an impressive record with tracks on Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 and The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102. Drumma Boy had arguably one of the catchiest tracks of the year with the U.S.D.A. smash hit, “White Girl.”

The product of an orchestra musician father and a mother who sang opera, Drumma’s rise to musical stardom was inevitable. With Scarface, Monica and Rick Ross recruiting his services for their latest projects and the Drumma Boy Live collective heating up, the man’s plate is full. “The most challenging aspect in my life and my story has been patience,” Drumma says. “I’ve been on the street; I’ve been on the grind, so for me to finally get where I’m at, it just shows that it takes patience.”

Understanding the importance of delayed gratification is what separates Drumma from other hit makers. Referring to Polow Da Don, Mannie Fresh and DJ Toomp as the best producers in the game, Drumma says their success stories come from a willingness to spend the extra time perfecting their craft. “It’s a growing process, you have to cultivate that music into a hit,” he says. “You can’t just say it’s a hit, words don’t say it’s a hit — people say it’s a hit.”

Regardless of what the people say, Drumma will continue to make great music because his heart is in his work. “I would die for music. [Even with] no money, no publishing, no nothing — I’d still be doing music.” - gavin philip godfrey
