Actor-Comedian
Don’t let the recent string of successes fool you; Charlie Murphy didn’t magically become funny overnight. In fact, Eddie’s older brother has always had a penchant for keeping those around him in stitches. Now, as the world awaits his next sidesplitting performance, the comedian-actor decided to change up the pace, and offer insight into the serious side of Charlie Murphy.
When queried about his political leanings, Murphy was quick to point out why he tends to stay away from the topic. “I try not to even deal with politics unless I’m on stage,” he explains. “That way, I can say what’s on my mind without coming off as a threat. I’m not trying to piss off the government by exposing to the world what they’re doing. Put it like this: If there was a gang that was doing something illegal, and you turned the lights on and exposed what they did, what do you think they would do to you? ... That’s right, they would take you out. So I’m not going to expose the government. They are the biggest gang in the world.”
Murphy continued, “Most people don’t even realize that we are living in a dictatorship. This man [Bush] was elected to represent the people. The people are saying that they don’t want to be at war in Iraq, and he’s basically saying, ‘I don’t care what you think, I’m going to war anyway.’ If that doesn’t sound like a dictatorship, then I don’t know what one is.”
