queen latifah - taking matters into her own hands

Actress/Rapper

Queen Latifah is a woman of action. Instead of waiting around for Hollywood to produce a Christmas movie based on the black experience, she decided to make one on her own. The result: The Perfect Holiday. For Latifah, the real joy came not from starring in a movie at all. Instead, she found the greatest satisfaction in the ability to provide jobs for other talented people in her community.

“That’s the best part of being a successful entertainer,” she explains. “The success that I have had in my career has allowed me to be more of a producer, and give opportunities to those that deserve it the most.”

While Latifah’s success may seem surprising to the casual observer, those closest to the star know that she was always been built to call the shots. “Even in my recording career, I never liked someone telling me what to do,” Latifah shares with a laugh. “So having the means to not only do things my way, but to also oversee projects from start to finish has been both a challenge and a very enjoyable part of my experience in this industry. It’s definitely been a blessing, and I hope that people will pack up their entire family and go and check out The Perfect Holiday. I definitely feel like it’s a film that will be enjoyable for the entire family.” – dewayne rogers
