Mogul, Corporate Thugz Entertainment
Demetrius “Kinky B” Ellerbee recently became a father. A few weeks ago, Demetrius Jr., arrived in the world, and since his arrival, Ellerbee has found that he is much more focused as both a family man and businessman. “My outlook on life now is totally different because I don’t just work for me now, I work for my son,” he says.
Over the course of the last two years, Demetrius “Kinky B” Ellerbee has quietly built a hip-hop empire via his Corporate Thugz Entertainment imprint. Since starting the business with fellow franchise artist and close friend, Young Jeezy, Ellerbee has been able to explore outside ventures, including his newest project, HUSH Management.
With the new addition to Ellerbee’s life, more income is crucial, but for a guy who has successfully engineered the sales of three million records, it’s even more important to keep a level head. “We came from the streets with nothing,” he says. “We were broke, living in a one-bedroom apartment eating Ramen Noodles, so we know what it is to struggle and we vowed to never ever go back to that again.”
Over the next 10 years, Ellerbee promises to groom three to four more multiplatinum stars while following in the footsteps of his mentors L.A. Reid and Chaka Zulu by becoming a corporate mainstay. “I’m a part of history right now,” he says. “We came in the game with nothing — no co-sign, nothing but street credibility, and did it. When they close my casket [I want them to say], ‘He did his damn thing.’ ” – gavin philip godfrey
