President and Designer, Tayion Collection
Nothing demonstrates a man’s sophistication better than a finely tailored suit. Whether it’s a three-piece, double-breasted wool ensemble, or a two-piece, single-breasted silk combination, if it’s from the Tayion Collection, the customer is sure to be dressed to impress.
As the Tayion Collection plans for the future, founder Montee Holland embraces the notion that you shouldn’t just wear a suit when you can wear a suit.
“I’ve always had a passion for fashion,” says Holland, the line’s president and designer. “I’ve always liked nice suits, shirts, ties, [and] those types of things.”
During his service in the Marine Corps, Holland began experimenting with fashion by creating pieces for himself. After being discharged and spending time in corporate America, he opted to connect his business experience with his fashion savvy. By 1994, the Tayion Collection was ready for the world.
“We’ve grown from zero stores to about 600 stores around the country. So, it’s grown pretty fast in a relatively short amount of time,” he says, adding that his client roster includes Samuel L. Jackson, Bishop Eddie L. Long and Pastor Marvin Winans.
“If you really believe that you can do something, you can,” he says. “A lot of people want to do different things, and they think that they’re held hostage by their job. I’m here to tell you that if you really want to do something, you can do it.” – janaya black
