Co-Host, MTV’s “Dances From Tha Hood”
For those who can’t wait for the weekend to come so they can hit the club and show off all the moves from the new Chris Brown or Soulja Boy video, MTV’s “Dances From Tha Hood” cable television show was created to help. Produced by MTV VJ Sway, “Dances From Tha Hood” is an instructional show that teaches the latest in hip-hop dances. Host Tweetie, and co-host Smoov, offer step-by-step lessons for dance crazes like the ‘Aunt Jackie’ and ‘Walk It Out.’
Smoov admits long-time friend Tweetie requested him for the job. “They wanted to bring in a sidekick with her, and she said [Smoov] has been doing this for a long time, so that’s how I got [the position].”
Smoov has worked with artists such as Ludacris and Destiny’s Child, and he’s been dancing all his life. “If you let my mother tell it, [I’ve been dancing] since before I could walk,” he says. A native New Yorker, he received his training at the Harbor Conservatory for Performing Arts in Harlem.
Smoov’s aspirations include more television work as well as moving on to the silver screen. “I definitely want to start doing more hosting on TV, and choreography for movies.” He adds, “I also want to help kids, I want to get them off the streets and let them know there are outlets available to allow them to do positive things with their lives.” –cherice e. norman
