Civil Rights Pioneer and Activist
Former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young has contributed much to the advancement of both African Americans and humankind in general over the past 50 years. From his days of working alongside such great civil rights leaders as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to his many accomplishments in foreign relations, Young is a true humanitarian.
With momentum growing around the upcoming presidential election, Young, who was a member of the Congressional Black Caucus during his three terms in Congress, is anticipating the changes that will come for all Americans if a Democrat wins the 2008 election.
“It’ll mean that we’ll have a reasonable approach to health care,” he says. “Right now, you can’t afford to get sick and they punish you for being too well. So we’ll have health care, but we’ll also begin to stabilize this economy.”
Always working to bring stability to war torn countries around the world, Young also believes that a change in the White House will bring about hope for international communities and American citizens serving abroad in the military. Enthusiastic about changes in the Middle East, Young even has predictions about the war in Iraq.
“In a little while we’re going to be able to bring our brothers and sons and daughters back home from Iraq,” he says. “And we’ll have a foreign policy that will be built around peacemaking rather than death and destruction.”
