For all of the successful rappers to come pouring out of New Orleans in the past decade, its sister city to the north has had very little visibility. Young MC Bulletproof-Teflon! is aiming to change that. Fresh out of Shreveport, La., the rapper is hungry to make his mark in the game. "I'm from Shreveport and a lot of people [haven't] heard too many Shreveport artists," he explains. "We've got a different style and swag." Bulletproof is a new voice and that 'different style and swag' makes him stand out among his contemporaries.

Growing up listening to Scarface, UGK, and the Cash Money Millionaires, Bulletproof developed a love for rhyming early in his life. "I started at a real young age, doing different things from battling to writing songs, but keeping it local," he continues. "My cousin Dontrell [was] killed when I was around 13 or 14. He used to always tell me 'You're gifted,' [and] from that point I've just been doing what I do."

Bulletproof-Teflon! has watched and learned as he's taken his first steps towards stardom. "What made me focus on business was seeing how a lot of artists get messed over in the game," says the young rapper. "You've got to read before you sign - a lot of these contracts have different things in them and you never know. Coming into the game, I knew that it wasn't just about the music, but being a youngster you look at it like that. You really need to be on your business before you let the fame overtake you." -todd williams
