Soul Singer
Melissa Young creates melodies before a single note pours out of her mouth. The versatile vixen with
the svelte frame and velvety voice moves through life with a rhythmic grace that is congruent with her
spirit. She is a woman in alignment with her purpose. This purpose is readily discerned on her new
release, Just up the Road. Young's silky sounds pour over your sensibilities like warm syrup, inducing
you to surrender to her vivid world of harmonic story lines and dramatic portraits of love, heartache and
inspiration.
The New York University film graduate found inner serenity when she stopped searching far and wide
for answers, which is the inspiration behind the album's title. "When you get enough of [searching for
answers], you say, 'I'm going to turn around and go back. I'm not going to find it," she explains. "And
just before you turn around and go back, you find what you had been looking for right up the road from
you, and that's sort of what my life has been."
With Just up the Road, Young delivers a product that percolates with mood-altering, love-engendering
and mentally-inspiring music that will not erode through the corrosive powers of time and a fickle industry.
"That's what I'm looking to do," the songstress says of the potential of her CD. "I want longevity. I want
to make timeless music. I want people to listen to my music 10 years from now and reminisce about it
the way they do with Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On?' Timeless music is definitely what I'm trying to do."
