Senior Producer, ABC World News
Shortly after we spoke at the UNITY ‘08 Conference, ABC World News senior producer Jason Samuels announced that he would be leaving the network to join ESPN. Samuels had been in charge of producing the daily live ESPN webcast since April of 2007. For the past two months he has filled in as executive producer of “Weekend World News.”
“Since its debut in January 2006, ‘World News’ has set the standard in network digital offerings as the first and only evening newscast to produce an original program for the Web. My production background and digital experience should allow us to continue pushing the resources of ‘World News’ into the digital space. I’m delighted to be on board, says Samuels, who will serve as senior producer at ESPN’s prime time newsmagazine. The accomplished executive is also joining the faculty of New York University’s department of journalism.
Prior to joining ABC’s “World News,” Samuels, an Emmy Award-winning producer, was a senior producer at “ABC News Now” the network’s 24-hour digital channel, where he led new content initiatives. Prior to that Samuel’s worked as a producer
for NBC’s “Dateline” for 11 years. There, he produced a number of projects that spotlighted issues like welfare reform, post-traumatic stress disorder among Vietnam veterans, and a controversial federal housing mobility program that affected low-income families. –roz edward
