stuart scott - it’s how you say it
Lead Anchor, ESPN/Sportscenter
Venerable ESPN statesman Stuart Scott was the first to imbue the hip-hop vernacular with television sports reporting and become a wildly popular anchor on ESPN’s “Sportscenter” while drawing the ire of journalism traditionalists who bristled at his frequent colloquial utterances. Today, the man who is “cooler than the other side of the pillow,” to borrow one of his favorite adages, offers his take on the upcoming season. –terry shropshire
In your opinion what is the biggest sports story on the advent of the 2008 season?
Well, right now, Brett Favre is the biggest story. Three weeks from now it could be something different. Brett gets with the team ... either the Packers or someone else, but three weeks from now it’ll be something different.
Is there another big story coming out of training camp?
This is my own personal thing--it is not what is or what is not the biggest story. To me it’s just football, man. I mean, I’ve played the sport. There are a lot of great sports. I love golf. I’ve played basketball. But football? There’s nothing like football. Nothing. There’s nothing that comes close. So just the idea of football season — the games, the teamwork, the comradarie and the way the sport smells and feels. The biggest story is when September comes around and the season starts.
Do you believe that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is the embodiment of the No Fun League with his draconian-like punishments on players?
I like his heavy hand. I really like his heavy hand. I think if he’s going to have a heavy hand though, have a heavy hand everywhere, all across the board
