Rapper-Actor, “From G’s to Gents”
Markice “Kesan” Moore says the murder of his cousin was the impetus for his move from New Jersey. When the now-21-year-old headed to Atlanta in hopes of showcasing his thespian and music talents, he fell in love with the city instantly.
“I was 16 years old [and] getting into clubs,” he says. “Why would you want to leave it, especially when you’re not old enough to get in in the first place? I remember they carded Bow Wow at the door and I slid through 112 — real talk.”
While many of his peers were engrossed in the city’s party scene, Kesan used social gatherings as a networking tool. Kesan’s lyrical prowess led to collaborations with Killer Mike, Too Short and Akon. The rising star also flexed his acting chops in the T. I.-led film ATL, and is currently featured on the MTV hit “From G’s to Gents.”
Just don’t let Kesan’s affiliation with the TRL crowd fool you. “I take myself seriously, you know what I mean,” he says. “I don’t play with it. It’s a business, I’m a business, I’m a brand, so I make sure I give the most quality product that I can give, which is myself.”
With an LP entitled, A History of Violence on the way, and a role in the upcoming flick, Bolden!, Kesan admits he’s come a long way. “I could’ve kept robbing, stealing, fighting — because I did it all. I appreciated it [and] I’m still living, I could’ve been gone. I know people that died playing those games,” he says. –gavin philip godfrey
