Singer

Long noted for his breakout performances, Johnny Gill recently rocked on the river at Detroit’s Chene Park and caused near pandemonium with his suggestive lyrics and provocative gyrations. Having been a member of the superstar side project LSG, the performance was reminiscent of those with the late great and sorely missed Gerald Levert and old friend Keith Sweat.

A native of Washington, D.C., Gill possesses one of the clearest, strongest soul voices of his generation. The singer, who has enjoyed notoriety as both a solo act and as a group performer, heated up the night with stirring renditions of “Can You Stop the Rain” and “My, My, My.” “I love giving love back to the crowd in Detroit. I like being in the Big-D, and I’m just ready to entertain and get things going here,” says the crooner.

Several years ago, Gill recorded an album entitled, Back to Motown with songwriters and producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.  “I’m working on a new project with Jimmy and Terry and I look forward to that being released and available before the end of the year. I’ve worked with them for many years now and I’m confident the people will really get into this collection,” beamed Gill.
During the steamy Friday night performance, the former teen sensation and New Edition member brought fans to their feet where he kept them throughout the evening with high-energy and moving performances of fan favorites and his latest releases. At one point, Gill thrilled audience members with on-stage antics (complete with dirty dancing) of “Rub You the Right Way” and “Wrap My Body Tight.”

This passionate baritone will keep us listening for years and years to come.–roz edward
