Talk Radio Host, USTalkNetwork.com

Shelley Wynter is one of talk radio’s most compelling voices. As a host for USTalkNetwork.com, Wynter brings his brand of unique humor and smart political discourse to the masses. “My talk radio show has always been one that’s serious politics mixed in with a little humor,” he says. “I’m a hip-hop baby, so I bring [in] hip-hop references, but it’s basically serious politics. It’s like ‘Meet the Press’ meets ‘Arsenio Hall.’ ”

Wynter is especially passionate about getting the public more involved in the political process — and not just on the federal level. “There are certain things that affect your life on a day-to-day basis, particularly local politics,” explains Wynter. “It’s very important that we vote and recognize how politics affects our lives.”

Wynter, an engaging commentator, is unafraid to challenge popular opinion. “I’m not supposed to be objective. I’m supposed to be subjective,” he says. “I’m conservative, and that already puts me at a difference in my community. But many of us African Americans are conservative when you talk to [us]. We’ve been trained to believe that ‘conservative’ means ‘Republican.’ ”

“The most gratifying thing is when I see people on the street and they say ‘Man, you make me think,’ ” says Wynter. “You might think one thing and people have told you that that’s the way to think ... [if] I ... make you think differently, that makes it worth it.” In an age of political apathy and hollow bipartisanship, a new way of thinking may be exactly what the people need. –todd williams
