Rappers, Fresh Out Da Kitchen
When some people think of Detroit’s hip-hop scene, chances are that the first image that comes to mind is rapper Eminem. Newcomers Bake Up Boyz hope to add themselves to the Motor City’s list of hip-hop products.
The group, which consists of longtime friends Jino, Loot 75, Bub and Dirt, say that they’re bringing their own sound to the table.
“We want to just make it hot, make it universal and make it reach a bunch of crowds,” explains Loot 75 about their debut album, Fresh Out Da Kitchen.
“We didn’t want to be stuck in one box as ‘too street’ or ‘too ‘hood,’” Bub adds, “so we mix it in the pot like gumbo — fresh out the kitchen, baby.”
To help shape their sound, the group called on Rick Ross, MC Breed and the soul group The Dramatics. Bake Up Boyz also enlisted the help of Jim Jones for their lead single, “Now I Can Do That.”
For their first outing, the hip-hop group released their album on Bub’s label, Fharmacy Records. “It’s a little bit easier being indie nowadays. We have our independence and creative control on the record,” Bub explains.
In the meantime, the group says that they’ll keep doing what they do best — making hot music. “We’re chefs. The studio is the kitchen and we do what we do,” Loot states. “We bake up.” -
