Jazz Violinist
Finding a multitalented musical genius is rare in today’s entertainment scene; however, Atlanta-based musician Delores Major shines as that precious gem with her unique fusion of musical styles. Artfully moving from jazz to gospel to R&B and rock-infused rhythms, the electric violinist delivers magnetic performances throughout the city.
“When I play, I don’t have to think about the notes. They come automatically. I’m creating very much like an artist paints a picture,” shares Major following her tantalizing set at rolling out’s Female Success Factor event in Atlanta. “I don’t play the same song the same way twice. I make sure that I’m creating from my heart, my soul [and] my inner being. I’m communicating with my music.”
Major and her band, Rhapsody Le Chic, have opened for legendary funk singer Chaka Khan and played at Centennial Park. Offstage, she’s taught music to students in the Benjamin E. Mays-Frederick Douglass High School Honor Orchestra. She now serves as a violin soloist at Hillside Chapel and Truth Center in Atlanta.
“[Playing music] was an emotional outlet that took up the slack for things that didn’t appeal to me,” says Major of her musical passion that began at the tender age of 7. “Music gave me a plethora of creativity. I write, arrange and perform music. It has been my grits, eggs and toast. It’s all that I do.”
