Celebrity Stylist
When Renée Brown-Tom’s friend approached her seven years ago and said, “Renee, you know that I am working with Musiq Soulchild on his video [‘Girlfriend Next Door’]. It’s a dated, conceptual piece and we need some clothes dating back to the ‘70s,” reflects the wardrobe stylist. “She knows that I love vintage shopping and I love kids, so I found the clothes and they flew me to Philadelphia to work with him. It has been nonstop since then.”
Brown-Tom enjoys working with male artists who are looking for “a style that stands out from the rest of the crowd.” “Cee-Lo is one of my favorite artists to work with,” she shares about the eclectic artist known for his wearable wonders. Other music industry clients include Polow Da Don (whom she recently tailored for the “In the Club” and “Party People” videos), Anthony David, Sleepy Brown, Kirk Franklin, Dollar Bill, and a particular favorite is Shandon Anderson, formerly of the Miami Heat. Her corporate clients include Verizon Wireless, Dodge, the Georgia Lottery and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
The mother of two daughters, 8½-year-old Naima, and eight-month-old Shiloh, the statuesque stylist is a former model and a native of Kingston, Ontario (Canada). She’s married to marketing entrepreneur Kembo Tom and enjoys collecting mid-century furniture.
Traveling is a big part of Brown-Tom’s job and fortunately for her, she’s found that the industry is kid-friendly. “No one has a problem with me bringing them to shoots. I have an amazing support team — my friends and my assistants. I am blessed with nice children, friends, and a great husband.”
