It doesn’t take much to see that 17-month-old Bailey Sky Smith gets her intoxicating charisma from her mother, Rashan Ali. The younger Bailey came into the world on Dec. 3, 2006, and for Ali and her husband, Brian Smith, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight.

“See, your friends don’t tell you that they look weird, especially when they’re born vaginally,” jokes the host of Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 “A-Team Morning Show” and budding actress.

At the same time, Bailey’s introduction to the world was a serious reality check for Ali, who was just settling into her role as a bourgeoning celebrity. “I think you get a complete sense of, ‘Wow, she’s totally dependent on me for her livelihood — dependent on us for livelihood,’” she says.

Today, as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and sideline reporter for the Atlanta Hawks, it’s a wonder that Ali is able to find the time and energy to keep all the balls in the air at once. “It’s hard to find a balance, I think you constantly try to come up with that formula, but I’m doing my best and trying to be the best wife and mother and career woman that I can.” Even though entertainment is her passion, Ali says the “ever-rambunctious” Bailey is her heart, and regardless of mom’s hectic schedule, the focus is always on the baby. “That’s very important to me,” she says, “that she knows mommy works a lot, but most important [is] that she knows that mommy loves her.” gavin philip godfrey
