sugar babe - she knows how to act up

Actress, Comedienne

Being a stand-up comedienne is one thing — being an actress is another; however, bringing both art forms together produces great talent. Sugar Babe, as she’s fondly known, is blending her natural comedic skills with her newfound acting talent. Recently cast in Plus Size Production’s The Family Mess Expert as Mama Rose, Sugar’s performance was the perfect opportunity for growth.

“The message [of the play is that] every family has some type of mess. Everybody is going through something, but everybody wants to put on a façade that it’s a perfect life when there’s no such thing,” says Sugar. “What The Family Mess Expert did was reveal that you’re not alone; you think you’re alone going through whatever you’re going through, but you’ll find out … there are others in the same boat with you.”

Reading Sugar’s list of credits, one would think she’s a regular on the theatre circuit. Surprisingly, she works steadily as a stand-up comedienne.

“I’ve been doing comedy since 1985. I’ve worked with most of the Chicago comedians in the city,” says Sugar. When asked about the difference between acting and comedy, Sugar responds, “The biggest difference is that being on stage doing comedy, you’re alone, but with acting you have a cast — and this was an awesome cast.” -tony binns
