First came Jennifer Holiday, then Jennifer Hudson, and now following close on the heels of her beloved predecessors, Jennifer Sheffield. The emerging starlet is launching a well-planned and skillfully crafted debut for residents of the Big D in the summer of ‘08. “I don’t want to get molded into something I’m not, or sounding like anyone other than me. So I have to be very conscientious and methodical about how I proceed.”says Sheffield.
The native Detroiter and recent University of Michigan graduate describes her musical style as an R&B mixture. “If I had to describe my style, I’d say it was a little bit of Tamia only with a little bit more funk to it , but not as funky as say a Beyoncé,” explains Sheffield.
Much like her singing counterparts, her parents have been a major influence in the young professional’s development, guiding her through the obstacle course better known as the entertainment industry. “I grew up listening to my mother who sang backup vocals for Michael Bolton and that’s when I knew I had to sing. I also followed my father’s direction as far as my education goes and that’s why I got a bachelor’s in sociology,” shares the young songtress.
Sheffield’s personal pragmatism coupled with her incomparable voice, landed her a recent engagement singing the national anthem at Cleveland’s
Quicken Arena where she showcased her talent and versatility to a throng of
fans.
Sheffield’s unusually keen sense of pitch and her passion for music provide the perfect vessel for her harmonious R&B blends and have placed her feet firmly on the path to stardom. She is currently featured on Uncle Sam’s latest album, singing the new hit “Bone Man.”
