Author, I Can’t Afford to Marry You
Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it can buy peace in relationships. Marilyn Logan offers monetary lessons as she breaks down dollars to sense in her inaugural book, I Can’t Afford to Marry You.
In the book she recalls that after her fiancé perused her financial records, he called off their engagement only four weeks before the wedding. “He said, ‘You spend more money than you make. Now I do love you … but you are in financial ruins and I am not giving you my last name in the financial condition that you are in,’ ” says Logan.
From that experience, the motivational speaker says she rose from credit card debt to becoming “financially healthy.” She now uses that situation and her experience as a successful investment broker to help couples with their finances. She has shared her expertise on shows like “Great Day Houston,” “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” and “Dr. Phil.” Logan regularly urges couples to keep a nest egg for the unexpected.
“You want to live off of one income and bank the other,” she advises. “If you live long enough, I promise you, Mr. Emergency will show up in your life,” warns Logan about mates who spend hard-earned cash on things they don’t need.
The financial expert adds that money isn’t the root of all evil — but when we don’t manage it well, we fall victim to life’s misfortunes.
“People say, ‘Marilyn, you always talk about money,’ ” says the expert. “Well guess what, it’s up there with oxygen, you need to have money.” –
