Author, What If It Feels Good
When D.J. McLaurin penned “What If It Feels Good,” she actually drew on her own personal experience of forbidden love. “When I was 13-years-old I had a crush on my older sister’s boyfriend. He was probably 19. In my head I would fantasize about this unorthodox, forbidden relationship. Then I started exploring the ramifications of what would happen if anyone found out. So, I had the seeds of a story for many, many years,” says McLaurin.
Set on the rough-and-tumble streets of Detroit, “What If It Feels Good,” is the story of betrayal, revenge and secrets. But it is also a story about love and romance.
McLaurin began her literary career by writing plays for churches in addition to poems and short stories, but she credits her mentor, Merry Green, for the inspiration to write a novel. “After my job downsized, Merry gave me a card that said, ‘If you can dream it, you can do it.’ I give her credit for setting the fire under me,” says McLaurin.“It sounds [like a ] cliché, but persistence is the key, never give up on your dreams.”
