One listen to Yunek’s impassioned vocals, her thoughtful lyrics, and a glimpse of her charismatic stage presence and it’s obvious that music is this young woman’s destiny. A native of Houston, Yunek’s soulful brand of urban gospel is her outlet for confession and for praise. She nurtured her love for music until she developed her style. “I got serious about my music about five years ago and it took about three years to complete my album,” she explains. She studied in various fields, but realized that she had to follow her dream. “I came out of audio engineering, and I [have] a degree in social work, but I’m pursuing my passion.”

Influenced by artists ranging from Indie.Arie to Marvin Sapp, Yunek is excited about her album, Exodus 3:17: Out of Affliction, Into the Promised Land. “It’s about being in the struggle and coming out, finding your purpose and that place where God wants you to be. That’s what happened to me, it’s about my life.”

“The key to being successful is keeping God first,” she continues. “I really look to God for my vision. And staying focused, as an artist — always study, know your craft, and network with people in the industry.”todd williams
