Author, No More Drama: Nine Simple Steps for Transforming a Breakdown into a Breakthrough

Several years ago, Sil Lai Abrams was on top of the world. She had a successful special events planning company and was dating the man she hoped would become her husband. However, after the relationship ended abruptly, she found herself at rock bottom.

I flipped. I got so depressed. I just could not believe it,” she recalls. “I literally got in bed one day and I didn’t get out for about three months. I was beside myself. I was just so broken.” It was during that despair that Abrams realized she was the only person who could change her circumstances. “I’ve been through darkness before. I realized that I could not keep patching myself up and acting like everything was OK,” she says. Abrams shared her story with a close friend, who in turn encouraged her to pen a book. Although she was hesitant about the idea, she found the process to be cathartic. “For four months, I sat down and wrote and wrote. It was pouring out of me. Sometimes I look at it now and am like, “wow you wrote that’” recalls the single mother of two.

Abrams says the purpose of her book, No More Drama: Nine Simple Steps for Transforming a Breakdown into a Breakthrough, is to teach women how to empower themselves. Since then, Abrams has garnered support from the likes of Tavis Smiley and is now a featured columnist in Men’s Health magazine. She counts that dark period as her turning point. “It forced me to realize that until you change,” she says, “your result never will. –ivory m. jones
