Recording Artist, Mail On Sunday
Flo Rida is surprisingly humble for an artist who has the No. 1 single in the country. For the past 18 weeks, the Carol City, Fla., native’s T-Pain-assisted “Low,” from his forthcoming solo debut album, Mail On Sunday, has dominated the Billboard charts. The buzz has only intensified with the release of his latest single, the Timbaland-produced “Elevator.”
It’s been a long time coming for the kid who was once a member of the ‘90s group, The Groundhoggz, and at the age of 18 was the hype man for Fresh Kid Ice of 2 Live Crew. After struggling to push his music in L.A. for three years under the wing of Jodeci’s DeVante, all Flo Rida can do now is be thankful. “It’s a blessing, ya know,” he says of his recent success. “It wasn’t like this last year for me, but thanks to the Man above, my success story is becoming real big right now.”
Anticipating the release of his Poe Boy/Atlantic release, Flo Rida only wants to give listeners an album that illustrates the potential shown on his first two smash singles. “I had to take it postal because you know I like being different,” he says. “We’ve got the No. 1 single; we’re looking forward to having a No. 1 album.”
If the collaborations are any hint of what to expect, then the hype surrounding this disc is much deserved. Timbaland, The Runners, as well J.R. Totem will lend their production expertise, to go along with features that include Lil Wayne and Yung Joc.
It appears that over the course of the next year, Flo Rida might earn the right to be a little smug.
