Pastor and First Lady, The Fountain of Praise
As the first lady of The Fountain of Praise, Pastor Mia Wright has established herself as an important voice for women in her community. In 2002, Wright took her leadership role one step further by launching the Metamorphosis Women’s Empowerment Conference. The 2008 conference will feature Susan L. Taylor of Essence magazine, Dr. Juanita Bynum, Pastor Sheryl Brady and evangelist Joyce Rodgers. Wright and her husband, Pastor Remus Wright, recently sat down with ro to discuss the importance of the Metamorphosis Women’s Empowerment Conference. –amir shaw
This conference has been a staple in the community since 2002, how has it changed the women who have attended?
A number of women have started their own businesses after attending the conference. Others have increased their skills and have gotten promoted at their jobs. Women have been empowered and inspired by the information and resources that the conference provides.
What can attendees expect from this year’s conference?
You can expect a major event. We’ve undergone our own metamorphosis. We are at the George R. Brown Convention Center this year. The conference is supported by the church, but it is a separate non-profit organization. We have gotten a lot of support from the community and organizations who believe in our efforts.
How has this conference helped the family?
It empowers the family because women leave and come back to the family unit with a fresh awareness of their role as mothers who nurture, train and teach. This conference helps women to restore, re-establish and reconnect with themselves. The family prospers with them coming into awareness of who they are.
For those who are thinking about attending, how will this conference change their lives?
The Metamorphosis Conference is for any woman who is seeking to do better in life. As we go through different seasons and transitions in life, we have to learn to improve and set our desires for better things. Women who have been stuck in the past, in a rut or in a bad situation, will be inspired to live a better life.
