CEO and Artist, Diamond Lounge Creative
Great art is conceived in the minds of great artists. As CEO of the Atlanta-based creative agency Diamond Lounge Creative, artist Fahamu Pecou uses his artistic talent to help brands appeal to broad audiences through state-of-the-art graphic design and innovative marketing concepts. He’s also the artistic force behind Fahamu Pecou Art, performance art that touches on politics, pop culture and socialism. With all of that going on, it’s hard to believe that the artist began his journey with a single goal in mind — to be a painter.
“When I graduated from college, I graduated with a degree in painting, but it’s not like you can go apply for a job in painting, so I had to figure out something I could do to make money,” recalls Pecou. “I had some computer skills, so I kind of parlayed that into a design job, and my love of design and my love of art kind of jelled together with the new body of work that I’m working on. It allows me to be the graphic designer and the painter at the same time.”
Having worked exclusively on projects for Nissan, Nokia, and the National Black Arts Festival, Pecou’s knack for providing just the right creative touch for various ad campaigns and marketing firms has proven to be quite beneficial. With upcoming art shows in Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, and Capetown, South Africa, the sky is the limit for Pecou.
“The best part for me is the opportunity to meet people who are also trying to get to the places that I’ve been, and being able to be in a position to offer them advice or give them a hand-up to make their own passions and dreams come true,” concludes Pecou. –jason thompson
