Founder and Co-Director, Make It Rain In Da Hood

When Hot 107.9’s Pezo Johnson had rapper Yung Joc meet him at the downtown Atlanta radio station with stacks of cash, it wasn’t to shower strippers with tuition money or to make a pharmaceutical transaction.
The night before, Johnson was listening to DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz: The Album, when Andre 3000 delivered a few poignant bars on “The Art of Storytelling; Part 4.”
“When he rapped about being able to make it rain in the club but not doing it because of the state our community is in, something just clicked,” explains Johnson. “I thought right now, if the economy has a cold, we have pneumonia. I told [Yung Joc] that I had an idea. ‘We make it rain in the club; but, how do you feel about us going out and doing it hand to hand, just spur of the moment.’ I was expecting him to give me the run around but he was like, ‘let’s do it today!’ ”
The two settled on downtown Atlanta’s Five Points area and distributed the cash to crowds of needy people.
Johnson’s lavish philanthropic act wasn’t a ratings stunt or for tax purposes. Even before he dominated Hot 107.9’s 10 a.m.–2 p.m. time slot, Johnson was always benevolent at heart, counseling at-risk youth and reformed gang bangers.
“I just want to make giving back cool,” he says. “We’re going to be giving out clothes, coats, scarves [and] hats. We have a lot of NBA players that donated a lot of clothes and sneakers. If you want to donate something, I would encourage you to take it to your local homeless shelter.” –adam jones
