Rapper, “Streetz On Lock”
Not long ago, West Coast rappers dominated hip-hop charts. While that reign has since transferred to the South and beyond, one can only hope for another rapper to rise from the West to claim the coveted crown. Hot Dollar seems to have what it takes.
The latest artist to sign with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Recordings, Dollar’s mass appeal has been evident in the positive responses generated by his buzz-worthy street single, “Streetz On Lock.”
More than ready to prove to the world that he’s not a fluke, Dollar is prepared to show everyone what the West has to offer.
“I know I’ll be one of the first artists to break without the Dr. Dre imprint and that’s big because they don’t give a lot of up-and-coming artists an opportunity to make it that don’t have that imprint,” says Dollar, adding that he’s sure his album will be well received. “I put a lot of R&B artists on my records to complement the songs … [I’m] not just trying to go at singles.” The album will feature appearances from Trey Songz, Jagged Edge and Collie Budz.
While it’s sure to be a hit, Dollar remains focused on expanding. He’s already organized a label imprint deal at Def Jam Records for his own Dolla Figga Records and plans to release a group album.
“That’s the next thing,” he says. “Dolla Figga is about to take over … period.” - jason thompson
