Did MTV get this year’s VMA nominees right?
 |
Video of the Year:
“Forever” Chris Brown
“Burnin Up” Jonas Brothers
“When I Grow Up” Pussycat Dolls
“Piece of Me” Britney Spears
“Shut Up and Let Me Go” The Ting Tings
ro’s prediction: Jonas Brothers “Burnin Up”
Call them the Hanson Brothers 2.0, but Jonas Brothers definitely got the very marketable tween scene on lock. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if they gave it to Brit on GP for her remarkable clean-up job.
Best Dancing in a Video:
Chris Brown “Forever”
Danity Kane “Damaged”
Madonna “4 Minutes”
Ne-Yo “Closer”
Pussycat Dolls “When I Grow Up”
ro’s prediction: Chris Brown “Forever”
Yes, Madonna and Justin are rolling over and through cars on the Timbaland produced, “4 Minutes,” but Chris Brown’s nimble footwork just cant’ be denied.
Best Hip Hop Video:
“Just Fine” Mary J. Blige
“Superstar” Lupe Fiasco
“Low” Flo Rida
“Lollipop” Lil Wayne
“Homecoming” Kanye West
ro’s prediction: Kanye West “Homecoming”
Hopefully MTV will get this one right and give it to Kanye. But we have a feeling Lil Wayne and all of his hype may sneak in there and steal it away with the radio-ready “Lollipop.”
Best New Artist:
Miley Cyrus “7 Things”
Katy Perry “I Kissed a Girl”
Jordin Sparks “No Air”
Taylor Swift “Tear Drops on My Guitar”
Tokio Hotel “Ready, Set, Go!”
ro’s Prediction: Miley Cyrus “7 Things”
This category is decided by the fans and although Katy Perry’s bi-curious “I Kissed a Girl” is a pop radio favorite, Miley Cyrus is something like a phenomenon. |
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards are scheduled to air Sept. 7, live from Los Angeles. Always full of surprises (from Britney and Madonna’s kiss, to Britney’s performance meltdown last year), the VMA’s are sure to leave viewers with something to talk about for the rest of the year. Here is a partial list of 2008’s nominees. –jacinta howard
