One night after Sen. Hillary Clinton professed her full support for Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama, her husband-former President Bill Clinton, followed suit by standing behind the man who could become the first black American President in U.S. history.
“Everything I learned in my eight years as President and in the work I’ve done since, in America and across the globe has convinced me that Barack Obama is the man for this job,” Clinton said. “He has a remarkable ability to inspire people, to raise our hopes and rally us to high purpose.”
Shortly after Clinton’s unifying speech, Sen. Joe Biden strong-armed Sen. John McCain and the Republican Party in his keynote address. “Should we trust John McCain’s judgment when he says there can be no timelines to draw down our troops from Iraq that we must stay indefinitely?” Biden queried. “Or should we listen to Barack Obama, who says shift responsibility to the Iraqis and set a time to bring our combat troops home?”
Moments after Sen. Biden’s speech, Obama surprised the crowd at the over- capacity Pepsi Center with an impromptu appearance. Obama is set to speak before nearly 80,000 individuals at INVESCO Field to formally accept the Presidential nomination tonight. --amir shaw
